The Carleton Health Science Society is a community dedicated to advancing knowledge, research, and practice in various aspects of health sciences. This multidisciplinary field encompasses a wide range of disciplines, including medicine, nursing, public health, pharmacology, physiology, epidemiology, and many others.
Members of a Health Science Society typically include students and educators with individuals interested in promoting health and wellness. The society serves as a platform for collaboration, networking, and sharing of ideas and research findings among its members.

Election Positions 2024-2025
The HSS Society consists of the following hierarchy of positions. The description, responsibilities and commitment required for each position is stated below. There is a key difference between the executive roles and director roles. Please read through the descriptions before applying.
President
-
Conduct executive and general membership meetings.

Engage and involve the membership in the Health Science Society activities and campus life.
-
Promote the Health Science Society and its activities.
-
Act as a liaison with the Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) for fund transfers.
-
Oversee fundraising activities with the help of committees open to all members.
-
Attend all Health Science Society events and ensure executive presence.
-
Facilitate the transition between outgoing and incoming executives every year on April 30th.
-
Advocate for the constituents to the department.
-
Hours of commitment : 10 hours/week
Vice President Internal Affairs (VPI)
-
Maintain communication with faculty and staff in the Department of Health Science.
-
Coordinate executive and general meetings.
-
Liaise with CUSA (Carleton University Students' Association).
-
Coordinate committees within the department.
-
Chair Internal Affairs meetings.
-
Record minutes for executive and general meetings.
-
Produce and circulate motions and amendments to the greater council.
-
Act as the key contact person for all general membership meetings.
-
Hold the role of Chief Electoral Officer during Elections.
-
Coordinate activities with Carleton University Senate.
Director of Internal Affairs (2)
-
Serve as a liaison between HSS and CSSS (Carleton Science Student Society).
-
Assist in facilitating internal affairs committee meetings.
-
Communicate with Carleton Neuro Society and Cog Sci society.
-
Aid in the annual constitutional review and ensure familiarity with the constitution.
-
Assist VPI (Vice President of Internal Affairs) in producing and circulating motions and amendments to the greater council.

Report to VPI.
Vice President Academics
-
Maintain contact with faculty and staff in the Department of Health Science.
-
Coordinate academically-oriented events (Research Night, Grad Night, etc.) with professors and instructors.
-
Chair Academic committee meetings.
-
Attend executive meetings and report on committee activities.
Director of Academics (2)

Attend and assist in facilitating academic committee meetings.
-
Attend academic events and aid in their facilitation.
-
Report to VPA (Vice President of Academics).
Vice President Communications
-
Maintain contact with faculty and staff in the Department of Health Science.
-
Contact Faculty and Staff about merchandise opportunities and sales.
-
Act as a liaison between the undergrad administration and the Health Science Society (HSS).
-
Coordinate advertisement of events and academic events.
-
Create social media posts.
-
Write blurbs for grade representative classroom announcements.
Director of Communications (3)
-
Manage HSS presence on at least one social network platform.
-
Assist with placement of posters throughout the campus.
-
Design posters for various academic and social events.
-
Report to VPC (Vice President of Communications).
Vice President Outreach (VPO)
-
Facilitate the Health Sciences Connections program.
-
Coordinate first-year mentees with upper-year mentors.
-
Organize connection events to support successful programs.
-
Design and create Health Sciences merchandise and initiate the store.
-
Aid other VPs in external operations, including event planning and booking.
Note :
NOTE for Executive Positions**: It is expected that the VPs attend all executive and committee meetings, initiate committee meetings, and maintain contact and delegate tasks with the directors in their branch to facilitate an inclusive environment, commit to successful planning and execution of responsibility for duration of time of position held
NOTE for Director Positions**: It is expected that directors attend all committee meetings for their designated branch and assist the VP where necessary.
Vice President Events

Maintain contact with faculty and staff in the Department of Health Science.

Coordinate academically-oriented events (Research Night, Grad Night, etc.) with professors and instructors.

Attend and assist in facilitating socially oriented events.

Attend and assist in facilitating events committee meetings.

Report to VPE (Vice President of Events).
Vice President Finance (VPF)

Manage budget for events organized by HSS (Health Science Society).

Apply for funding from CUSA (Carleton University Students' Association).
-
Communicate with VPs (Vice Presidents) about allocated funds for different events.
-
Stay updated on potential funding opportunities through CUSA and CASG (Carleton Academic Student Government).
-
Manage all physical assets of HSS, including cash box and merchandise.
-
Act as the point person when HSS acquires new assets.
-
Serve as a signing authority for the bank account.
Director of Finance (1)
-
Attend and assist in Financial budgeting and funding opportunities.

Report to VPF (Vice President of Finance).

Act as a bridge between the society and your cohort.
